I've been contemplating the notion of “home water”. I want mine to be a place where I know the rocks and the lies where fish hide out. Where I’m comfortable experimenting, trying new flies, or just wading around checking on the neighborhood. Where there's no pressure to perform or take the fishing seriously.
How do you pick home water? Is it what's closest to you, or where you feel the most at home? Boulder Creek is the closest trout stream to my house, but I am most at home on Silver Creek near Steamboat Springs, a four hour drive from my door. Perhaps your home water can be both the river you sneak to for a couple of hours after work and the destination for a long-standing annual trip.
